Taking a short break from the Chicago series to talk about something happening locally in Atlanta. This is one of two short posts.
If you live in the metro-Atlanta area you’ve probably already heard on the news or the radio about the South Terminal parking lot at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport closing for the construction of a new parking deck.
It closed on October 23rd, 2023 for new entries but for those whose cars were in the lot who may have still been out of town, they’re able to exit the parking lot when they get back. Construction starts on November 1st according to Atlanta News First (ANF) and ends in 2026.
With the South parking lot being mainly used by Delta passengers (which makes up a large part of the airport travelers), you’re probably wondering, “Where are all these people going to park for 2.5 years?”
If the North side becomes overcrowded, there’s a few options you can take.
1. Have someone drop you off
Whether it’s a family member, friend, or a co-worker who owes you one, this would be the cheapest option. Hopefully it’s free for you (or only costs gas money). Another benefit is you can chat and be in the comfort of someone you already know.
A small down side is when you get back from your trip, you may have to wait for them for a while (unless they come early and wait in the cellphone lot).
2. Use a rideshare or taxi
Using a rideshare or taxi is the same as the first option but it’s a stranger and you’re paying for it. The benefit is you may not have to wait as long to be picked up. A taxi will always be there waiting at the airport and you can schedule a rideshare pickup.
3. Park offsite
This option is the one I prefer if I can’t get option one (or if I’m traveling with my go-to family member/friend). This is best for shorter trips, 2 weeks max. If you’re taking a longer trip, the first two options might be more cost effective.
Offsite parking is convenient because you can park your car in their parking lot and take the shuttle to and from the airport. You’ll select the date and time you’ll arrive (I’d suggest at least 2.5 hours before your flight) and the time you’ll return (I’d say roughly 30 minutes after your return flight’s landing time).
Here are some offsite parking options:
The Parking Spot/Parking Spot 2
(The Parking Spot 1 location has shuttle to International Terminal. Parking Spot 2 does the domestic terminal only)
UPDATE (Feb. 2024): The Parking Spot acquired Park N’ Fly/Park N’ Fly Plus. Read their FAQs here.
You can also use Airport Parking Reservations to find more options.
I hope this helps with your future travels!
I am curious to find out what blog system you’re utilizing?
I’m having some small security problems with my latest blog and I’d like to find something more risk-free.
Do you have any suggestions?
