Hey overthinkers! No travels or experiences to share today but I do have some news.

I’d been thinking lately (definitely overthinking), about how I could do more with the Overthinker Guide. I’m really enjoying writing about my travel experiences and sharing travel tips. I want to see what else I could do to keep sharing while working on myself whether it’s improving skills or even self-confidence. So of course, my mind went to YouTube first.

YouTube

With YouTube being a video based platform, it is a great way to show more of my travels in action. It’s also a platform where more often than not you have to rely on your personality to grow, to get people to keep watching. With a bunch of travel vloggers and even more travel vlogs out there, you have to stand out.

I wanted to challenge myself to take on starting a YouTube channel to help bring more eyes on the blog so it can grow and to help me grow as a person.

As an overthinker, I can second guess myself or feel insecure all of the time. I will be the first to admit I’m very awkward and that in-turn makes me want to stay behind the camera. That’s why you rarely see pictures of me in my blog posts.

I want to feel more comfortable being myself. I want to grow my confidence, embrace more of my creative side and improve a few skills like video editing, and I still want to go out and travel even more (locally too).

With that being said, I also want to become a better writer.

YouTube Improving Writing

While doing my research on starting a YouTube channel, in my typical overthinker fashion, I watched a ton of videos. A lot of them kept mentioning the art of storytelling; build a good story in your videos to keep people watching.

Most were saying to create your story and/or script before filming. I asked myself, “If my travels are based on a vacation, on things that haven’t happened yet and I can’t quite control, how can I create a story?”

In all fairness, some of those videos were for lifestyle channels or entertainment but it can be applied to travel vlogs. It had me thinking about documenting my travels from another angle. I think it could really help with the blog as well as the channel. Everyone loves reading a good story. Who would’ve thought filming things could help with writing? Art feeds into art!

TikTok and Instagram

Thinking of YouTube, I also had to start thinking of the short form videos like TikTok and Instagram Reels (and YouTube Shorts).

Those have their own separate strategies, however, I’d be using them to push to both the blog and YouTube channel.

This is another skill that I’ll have to learn: social media marketing. Now, I’m not going out all out like professionals but I will put more effort into it.

Overthinker Guide already has an Instagram but it’s severely underutilize. Being more active on both platforms should help me understand that aspect more.

Overall Hopes

Ultimately, I’m doing this to help the blog hopefully gain more readers and to help myself gain more confidence and feel more comfortable putting myself out there.

If you want to witness me putting myself out there, check out Overthinker Guide on YouTube! Videos will be posted every Tuesday (typically the Tuesday following the blog post). TikToks and Instagram Reels will be posted throughout the week.

Follow me @OverthinkerGuide for the following platforms: YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, and Facebook.

For the blog next week I’ll be sharing one of the fall activities that was on my list of things to do in S.A.D. times. Be on the lookout for that!

See you soon, overthinkers!
